With a growing number of governments around the world setting concrete plans to replace internal combustion engine (“ICE”) vehicles and to reach carbon neutrality, requiring public transport operators to invest in zero-emission transportation solutions. Wisdom is at the forefront of the ongoing green shift in the commercial BEV and FCEV sector and has a strong focus on sustainability, including the public bus services in Hong Kong, where the transition to zero-emission technology is expected to accelerate to comply with the government’s pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In March 2021, the Hong Kong Government announced the ICE vehicle replacement policy to phase out approximately 40,000 EURO IV diesel commercial vehicles by 2027. According to IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2021, the global market for zero-emission commercial vehicles is on track to reach over US$400 billion by 2035.

China is also where most of the world’s heavy-duty vehicles are manufactured, such as trucks, buses and vans. Nonetheless, Wisdom is headquartered in Fujian Province, which has become the world’s EV capital with CATL – the world’s largest EV battery supplier, and Fuyao – the world’s largest automobile glass manufacturer are also headquartered. Wisdom can greatly benefit from its unique position in the EV hub.
Furthermore, Wisdom has a first-mover advantage as it has already designed and delivered Hong Kong’s first electric double-decker bus in October 2021. Additionally, Wisdom designed and delivered Hong Kong’s first fuel-cell electric double-decker bus in June 2022.
Templewater and Ballard Power Systems (“Ballard”) – a world-leading provider of innovative clean energy fuel cell solutions, led the Series A round investment into Wisdom. As the majority shareholder of Wisdom, Templewater will support both organizational growth and continued investments into Wisdom’s R&D and manufacturing platform, including the expansion and development of its hydrogen zero-emission vehicle offering, supported by Ballard’s leading PEM fuel cell technology. The investment will also fund further international expansion, enabling Wisdom to keep on building demand for zero-emission transport and delivering on its growing number of customer contracts in the developed markets.
