Established in 2009, SC Lowy is a privately-owned global banking and asset management group that has a proven track record of delivering unique fixed income solutions to its investors and clients. It is headquartered in Hong Kong but with an international presence acrooss APAC, EMEA, and North America. The firm is founded and led by Michel Lowy and Soo Cheon Lee, a seasoned duo that have been investing as a team for over 23 years across multiple cycles.
SC Lowy has three business pillars, namely an asset management platform, commercial banking franchises and a broker dealer.
Investec and SC Lowy’s relationship dated back in 2016, when Investec financed SC Lowy as the founders repurchased shares held by private equity investors. Since then, Investec has extended various facilities to SC Lowy to fund the growth and day to day operation of the company.
Through the close working relationship Investec and SC Lowy have built, Investec gained a better understanding of the quality of the two founders, what they are capable of, as well as the business they have built. As such, in 2017, Investec led an equity capital raise to fund SC Lowy’s growth strategy. Subsequently, in March 2020, Templewater led another round of equity investment into SC Lowy to supercharge its growth.
SC Lowy has considerable upside potential from the scaling of the existing franchise into a fully-fledged credit fund manager to create long-term value as well as upside potential from its Italian Bank and further growth into growing private credit markets across Asia. SC Lowy has enjoyed strong growth to date and management expects continued growth by actively expanding in its core markets.
The two founders’ deep experience and long track record in the industry gives Templewater great confidence that SC Lowy will deliver the growth. The two founders, Michel Lowy and Soo Cheon Lee have been working together since 1998 before they co-founded Deutsche Bank’s distressed and strategic investments group for Asia Pacific in 1999. Based in Singapore, New York, and lastly Hong Kong, they built and led a dominant Asia-focused proprietary trading and investment team over the span of 10 years, while later adding Latin America to their mandate as well.
Templewater’s strategic involvement provided through Board level participation will leverage its deep networks in local European markets to help drive SC Lowy’s accelerated international expansion.
